Overview

The Executive Director, Business Operations & Process Excellence is an important strategic role to partner with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) on business, organizational and operational strategies and solutions. You will also work with products across the company to identify and guide process optimization efforts that support the Development organization to increase for the future.

The Executive Director will determine the improvement strategy and guide. facilitate solutions from concept through implementation. The solutions defined will be translated to business process updates, technical process, and system design, as applicable. The Executive Director is a member of the Chief Medical Officer’s Leadership Team (CMO LT) and Global Development Operations Leadership Teams.

Work Model:

Remote: officially documented as working full time from home, with travel to the company’s offices or other locations on occasion as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Chief of Staff/Business Operations
  • Partner with the CMO in strategic planning, policy development.
  • Manage the Development organization’s vision and strategic priorities
  • Partner with the CMO to create annual goals for Development and track progress
  • Work with the CMO to identify and prepare for leadership engagements
  • Develop presentations and communications in collaboration with the CMO and applicable Leadership Teams
  • Manage Leadership Team meetings, including preparation of the meeting agendas, sending out pre-meeting materials in advance, and tracking outcomes and deliverables
  • Oversee the implementation of Development Town Hall meetings
  • Lead the planning of offsite and events
  • Evaluate resource capacity and use across the Development organization
  • Participate in Business Development/in-licensing assessments as requested, providing strategic and operational input on costs, resources, risks and timelines
  • Oversee the line management of Business Operations & Process Excellence staff, including development, talent planning and performance management
  • Represent Development on committees
  • Process Excellence
  • Partner with the CMO LT to Identify important processes to be optimized
  • Lead Development plans to ensure deliverables are achieved on time with a standard of excellence
  • Oversee change management activities and communications
  • Conduct lessons learned to evaluate if the benefits defined in the business case have been achieved
  • Explore and implement potential novel opportunities to accelerate development programs, while applying Lessons Learned in collaboration with important partners

Requirements:

  • BS, MS, PharmD, PhD or equivalent in a scientific discipline
  • 15+ years of progressively more challenging experience in drug development, including 10+ years of line management experience
  • scientific/technical background in pharmaceutical and biotech. Previous project management experience
  • Must display strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of emotional intelligence to recognize and anticipate challenges
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally
